2012 Stonewall Officer Positions
Presidential Candidates (2):
Luis Loya
Luis Loya
Hello, my name is Luis
Loya and I would be thrilled to be your President next year. I am finishing up
my second year at NMSU and I am majoring in Psychology and Communication
Studies with a minor in Counseling and Education. I have served as PR under
Housing and Residential life for two years, been active in the Communication
Studies Club, Dining Services Committee and have participated in the Stonewall
QSA from the first day I arrived at NMSU.
If elected President I have 5 main things that I would like to do:
1. Implement this year’s idea of creating committees within the organization.
2. Adding a new officer position of Public Relations. This is important because currently this job is fulfilled on a volunteer basis and having a designated person will mean more consistency in the advertising role and we won’t have to depend on someone’s free time.
3. Change the role of the Vice-President to more of an outreach position. I would like to see the QSA to be more involved with other groups on campus and the Vice-President would aid in this effort by contacting other organizations and to see if we can team up for events.
4. Work within the community of Las Cruces instead of just the confines of NMSU. I would like to see the QSA do more charity work for the community on our own, rather than just team up with other clubs for events like Relay for Life and Keep State Great.
5. Work close with PFLAG in order to reach more people.

America's Next Top
NMSU Stonewall QSA President 2012
There are several general activities I would like to emphasize as president. First, I feel that recruitment is necessary to sustaining Stonewall in the future, so, especially in the beginning of the year, recruitment will be of vital importance. Since we have some momentum and popularity through a good portion of the student body, I am confident that finding new members will not be difficult. Second, social events will be important in order to retain new members and to keep things interesting for the veterans. Thirdly, and most importantly, I feel that Stonewall should be involved in more community service activities. We have many generous, socially conscious people in our club and in the GLBTQ community at-large, and I know that many of us would love to give back. Also, it is important for clubs like ours to develop a positive relationship with the general community, since acts of kindness can pave the road for positive dialogue, understanding, and acceptance.
My involvement with Stonewall has drastically impacted me. This club has allowed me to find myself and grow as a person. It has shaped many of my morals, goals, and interpersonal values. The members of the club have become my family away from home, and I can't imagine who I would be without having met them. As you can see, I know from first-hand experience how important Stonewall can be in people's lives and I would like to serve as a role model and mentor for younger members who are in the same position as I was. In my last year at NMSU, I would love nothing more than to serve as the president of Stonewall in order to repay all of you, in a small way, for the priceless experience that you have given me.

Vice President (1):
Ryan Garcia
Hello Stonewall QSA members. Many of
you know me as your current president, so I am fairly certain that everyone
reading this recognizes me. I will be running for Vice President of Stonewall
QSA's 2012 academic year. As your president last year I felt like we have made
incredible strides, increased membership, and accomplished a large
amount of activities/projects. I loved being your president but I would like to
take a step back and become the vice president for next year. As VP I feel that
I would have more time to help better set a foundation for Stonewall and tend
to areas that can be improved. Stonewall has become a NMSU power house and I
want to make us even stronger.
I hope to accomplish many things for
Stonewall QSA:
* increase our funds
* increase membership
* increase public relations
* improve structure
* work more with other organizations
I cannot wait for this next semester to
being so that we can make Stonewall QSA even bigger and better than it already
is :)
Secretary (1):
Ethan Williams
Hello, my name is
Ethan Williams and I’m running to become the new secretary for Stonewall QSA. I’m
very good at record keeping, and am generally at every meeting. I’m very good
with electronic media, and would keep everyone updated on all information the
club has through both facebook and email. If you would like me to become your
secretary, please vote. Thank you.
Treasurer
(1):
Joseph Moreno
Joseph Moreno
I have been a member
of Stonewall for the past 2 years and what a time it’s been. As I’ve
transitioned between the roles of Treasurer and Vice President in the group I’ve
learned a great deal about not only leading a student organization, but the
human condition in general. There are things I love about the group and the
people involved and things that need to be worked over. Things that are working
and things that come to the detriment of all involved and all we hope to get
involved in the future. This next year I hope to become Treasurer yet again so
as to build up what’s working and change what needs just that.
As Treasurer of the club I built up our funds, mostly through bake sales, and helped with anything that needed to be done on a weekly and sometimes daily basis to keep the club up and able. There were many hardships that first year in recruitment and keeping people involved and willing to help at events and in keeping people afloat in their personal and academic lives. We persevered however and we made it to and through another great year.
This year there was a slight change up in the leadership position line-up and I became Vice President about halfway through the first semester. It’s been a harrowing and difficult year for all, but we’ve managed to pull through as a stronger group and have pulled off some truly remarkable events and even meetings. I hope we keep up the momentum we have going and I would love to be involved as the Treasurer for this next academic year to make sure that happens. Thank you all so much for being there when we most need you and I hope we all have wonderful finals weeks and summers that can be looked on fondly for years to come.

Historian (1):
Tara Melton
I’m Tara Melton and I
am a 20-year-old junior Journalism major at NMSU! I’ve been apart of Stonewall
QSA for about 1 1/2 years now. I’m running for the position of Historian
because I believe we should preserve our history and accomplishments as apart
of our legacy. By selecting me as your QSA Historian, I will do my absolute
best to photograph and record all of our events, so we will have great memories
to look back on and build on for the future of QSA.
